History

Siurana is a fairytale village that brings with it the memory of endless sieges and impossible conquests.

Encinglada in an impregnable place above the river,it took the knights of four counts to subdue her. Its castle defended an impassable border that extended from Coll de Balaguer to Tamarit de Gaià. Conquered in 1153, after the fall of Lleida and Tortosa, it was the last stronghold of the reconquest in Catalonia. If you look at the precipice that surrounds it, you will discover why it was not conqueredfor three centuries and why the end was so tragic.

The popular legend of the Moorish Queen, sovereign of Siurana in other times who, seeing the population besieged by Christian troops, She decided to take her own life before being captured, so, jumping on her mount, a beautiful white horse, began to gallop towards the edge of the precipice, covering the eyes of the animal to prevent it from stopping before the deadly fall.

The mark of one of the horse’s hooves can still be seen on the edges of the rockfrom where it is assumed that the Moorish Queen decided to throw herself, making the legend even more magical and the mythical and captivating town of Siurana even more fascinating.

Montblanc It is a historic town whose origins date back to the year 1080 and which, today, preserves the largest walled enclosure in Catalonia.

It was at the end of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th when its greatest development took place, when its great walland most of the main civil and religious buildings were built, but later it suffered a great epidemic that caused its decline.

Montblanc had a commercial boom in the 18th century thanks to the production of vines, but a century later it was affected by the arrival of phylloxera.

After the Civil War Montblanc became an industrial town, and today it has about 7,000 inhabitants.
