With all the force of nature, the sources where the river is born spring directly from the rocks that border Castellar de n’Hug and from nearby peaks such as Puigllançada and Tossa de Alp. The water that comes out of the limestone rock is the result of the waters of the rain and the snow that during the winter have accumulated at the top of the mountain. The Llobregat river crosses Catalonia from north to south passing through the regions of Berguedá, Bages and Baix Llobregat and finally flows into the Mediterranean forming the Llobregat delta.
A short and easy walk from Castellar de n’Hug leads us along a well-marked and well-maintained path to the source of one of the most important rivers in Catalonia, the Llobregat. In approximately 20min and 1 km of travel (one way), we go down the cobbled path full of stairs that takes us to the place where the water gushes from within the mountain itself, forming a beautiful waterfall. It is a visit suitable for all ages and a classic of Alto Berguedá.
Discover the Jardins Artigas gardens, designed by Antoni Gaudí at the beginning of the 20th century. The work was a symbol of the architect’s gratitude to the Artigas family, who accommodated him in their home while he worked on the construction of the Chalet del Catllaràs as a home for the workers and engineers of the mines that extracted coal for the Asland cement factory.
The Jardins Artigas gardens blend nature and architecture in perfect harmony.
Puigcerdà, a great town in the middle of nature
Located in the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees, Puigcerdà is a beautiful Girona town located in a privileged environment that invites you to enjoy nature and the many activities that can be carried out there.
Practically on the border with France, in the north of the Catalan province, is Puigcerdá, a town of 8,000 inhabitants. What makes it special is the wall, begun in 1270 and whose documentation confirms that at that time, it had up to nine access gates. Currently there is still a large artificial lake, ordered to be built by King Sancho and which served as a tool for irrigating the bordering lands.
